Brief history of the company

Italian roasting company

Espresso, our passion Our objective? To export the true taste of Italian espresso to the whole world. Starting as a small artisan coffee roaster, the company grew at a great rate: from a million pods a year to two million pods a month in less than 14 years. A range of products fit for a multinational company, but with the quality of an Italian artisan coffee roaster. There are many reasons for this success. Gian Luca Venturelli Italian Coffee Roasting Company was founded in 1996 on the shores of Lake Garda (at Padenghe sul Garda-Brescia), thanks to the passion and enterprise of Gian Luca Venturelli. The company grew rapidly, first at its facility in Roncadelle (Brescia) where, besides the equipment for roasting and grinding the coffee, innovative plant was installed for packaging the pods in paper, allowing the company to specialize in a way that would later prove to be a winner. The roasting company expanded further in 2004, moving to its new headquarters at Carpenedolo(Brescia), a short distance away from the other company, still run by Gian Luca Venturelli, which produces and distributes the exclusive machines for espresso in paper pods, under the brand name La Piccola (www.lapiccola.it). The collaboration between the two companies, taking the best of the artisan tradition of coffee roasting and espresso machine design, led to full-scale experimentation in the field of “easy served” espresso, making it possible to produce products of excellent quality on both fronts. 2010 saw a further expansion with the opening of a new factory building in addition to the existing ones.
La Piccola , founded by Gian Luca Venturelli, is a dynamic company with a strong ecological mind.Producer exclusively of coffee machines for paper-filter pods, niche of market that has known a good development. It finds a great interest in the catering sector of high quality and in all places where excellence espresso coffee is served.

Our Values

We Choose Paper Pods

we believe in respect for the environment and sustainable development

We choose paper pods

The objective of respect for the environment guided us in the choice of paper as the medium for the pods in our coffee machines. Paper pods also enable us to produce healthier coffee. Filter paper is particularly effective in reducing the presence of grounds and other coffee residues such as waxes and oils. It is also used in pharmaceutical applications because it traps waterborne bacteria and reduces impurities. The coffee is healthier and more digestible as a result.

We design machines with low energy consumption

Our research is aimed at constantly improving our machines to make them more efficient, including in energy consumption. The model Sara Vapore is fitted with a separate switch for the steam so as to stop unnecessary steam production. The Cecilia professional model has separate switches for each group or function, as well as a thermoblock holding a generous 3.5 litres, which enables a 70% saving in energy consumption compared with a traditional bar machine.

We manufacture durable products

We believe quality products also have the feature of being eco-sustainable products.

Choosing a quality product made with good materials and good constructional techniques means less pollution. A durable machine which can be repaired even years later is a move away from “disposable” culture and therefore from obsolescent production, extra materials to dispose of and extra consumption of raw materials.

We use clean energy

We produce our machines using exclusively clean energy from non-polluting sources.

The Lucaffé brand: quality and charm

It was an inspired idea to connect the Lucaffé brand with an image which evokes charm and professionalism.

Particular care is taken in devising attractive and functional packaging. The wide range of appropriately designed accessories reinforces the Italian image of the product: the tradition of Italian espresso the way it is consumed in Italy by the Italians.

The little Lucaffé man, in his variants for each blend, sticks in the memory of consumers and is now a symbol and synonym of quality.

The practicality of espresso in pods

Preparing espresso coffee using paper pods enables anyone – not just skilled operators – to get excellent results.

An healthy coffee using noble materials

Because of high working temperatures of coffee machines, the contact of water with circuits could cause releases of materials, may-be of uncertain origin, that don’t give any guarantee. Our machines are in inox, we use paper filters and glass* water tanks, that prevent to transfer chemical waste. We are the only Company to supply Silver** as natural antibacterial agent.

* glass tanks available for LaPiccola Piccola

** silver available for model Healthy Machine and optional for all other models

Target markets

The solution of coffee pre-measured in paper pods was offered not only for use at home (retail channel) or in the office (vending channel), but especially for serving quality coffee in restaurants with the maximum practicality in spite of the large number of cups per day (horeca channel).

Their ease of use and the supporting product marketing have made Lucaffé pods particularly well-loved abroad. New “Lucaffetterias” and new “Lucaffé shops” are springing up with increasing frequency in several countries. These businesses are run with enthusiasm and satisfaction by people who know that they are offering quality products.

We are awakening consciences... with our coffee

We are an eco-sensitive company: we believe in respect for the environment and sustainable development.

What we are doing in our small way

We use clean Energy
In our company we use clean energy exclusively from non-polluting sources.

We have chosen paper for our pods
Paper pods are totally biodegradable, unlike plastic capsules which unfortunately are spreading as an alternative standard. Paper pods enable us to produce healthier coffee. Filter paper is particularly effective in reducing the presence of grounds and other coffee residues such as waxes and oils. It is also used in pharmaceutical applications because it traps waterborne bacteria and reduces impurities. And the coffee, besides being more eco-friendly, is also healthier and more digestible.
